A Powerful Digital Trend
“4K Resolution” is defined as any device or display with a horizontal resolution of 4,000 pixels. If named in the same convention as 1080p, “4K Resolution” would not be 4000p, but simply a quality of 2160p. YouTube and the television industry have begun adopting 4K Resolution, and they advertise this revolutionary technological advance as “Ultra-High-Definition”. 4K Content is becoming available online, through such giant incorporations as Amazon and Netflix. 4K Cameras and projectors are now available for purchase at major online and physical retailers. Sony and Samsung JVC, in particular, have embraced the marketing of 2160p-capable devices.
With the falling price of the 4K Display, and the advantage in beauty that it is perceived to have over 1080p monitors, the 8K Resolution has been introduced. However, while 25 to 35% of the world’s television-equipped houses are expected to switch to 4K Televisions by 2030, 8K TV’s are currently accessible only to the social elite and the wealthy. However, the 4K Display certainly provides more vivid colors and graphics than the traditional HD TV, and many reviewers rave of the immersive 4K and 3-D combination. Combining the realistic visuals of the Ultra-HD display with 3-dimensional glasses is purported to yield a remarkable visual experience. Supposedly, this is even more immersive than the vaunted IMAX of the movie theater. The fundamental concept behind the 4K Display and its revolutionary impact is the idea that more pixels in a smaller space yield more crisp images, and more emotional interaction with viewers.
The Future of the Display
Notably, smart phones and small gaming consoles benefit more impressively from 4K technologies than large displays such as Televisions and computer monitors. The details which 4K Resolution enables to be seen are most easily viewed on these smaller devices. Moreover, physical discs which are used in computers and DVD or Blue-Ray players, do not yet support 4K Resolution. Noting this drawback, Comcast, DirecTV and DISH will soon offer 4K TV sets and services. Many people in developed nations, such as the United States of America and the United Kingdom, will switch to 4K Displays eventually; around 50% of the population will consistently use this newer technology. However, it is recommended that, if one desires to purchase 4K Displays, that they do it after waiting another year or two. In that time, the price of the 4K technologies is expected to steeply decrease.
The 4K Resolutions represents yet another way in which Humankind expands its mental powers into the digital realm. About three billion people in the world are estimated to have television, and, as with the Internet, millions more are gaining access to television every month.
The 4K Display is not a highly innovative or original concept. However, it represents the continued progress of Humankind, and the ideas submitted through the 4K apparatus shall affect the minds of at least one billion of our fellow human beings.
