Passengers travelling through Indian Railways no longer need to suffer smelly blankets. Smelly blankets on trains are going to be a thing of past, as railways deciding to wash them after every use.
As per the plans of Indian railway the new blankets designed by National Institute of Fashion Technology are lightweight and made of soft fabric will replace the old ones . The fabric of blanket is a mix of wool and cotton and can withstand daily wash.
Earlier Stinky train blankets became a matter of discussion in the Rajya Sabha and chairman Hamid Ansari commented that under the circumstances, it was better for passengers to bring their own linen for train journeys. Now in Parliament minister of state for railways Manoj Sinha said that “ The state-owned transporter is working on plans to provide freshly-washed blankets to passengers. These blankets with new designs will replace the heavier blankets that are provided in air-conditioned compartments and washed only once every two months, ”.
“Since there were complaints about blankets, we have tried to address the issue. We have approved the NIFT-designed washable blanket. The washable blankets will be used in a few selected premier trains to begin with and later more trains will be covered. It is not just about blankets. The NIFT has re-designed the entire bedroll with a new colour combination and the train interiors are also in the process of being modified to match the colours of curtains and bed sheets as a measure to enhance the train-travel experience,” a senior ministry official said.
The transport also have plans to set up laundries at major stations to handle the increased requirement of daily washing of blankets. Railways recently introduced “take away” bedroll kit scheme for passengers travelling in sleeper class it allows passengers opt for bedroll while booking tickets online. Bedroll are available at a cost of Rs 140 for two bed sheets and a pillow and Rs 110 for a blanket.
It’s a good news for many Indian how travel from railway daily , no more Stinky blanket .
