Jai Gangaajal Movie Review and Rating

Prakash Teri Gangaa Ordinary

A bogus trailer… A bad soundtrack… I am not (much of) a fan of the director… So why to sigh?…

Wait! Wait! There’s Priyanka Chopra. “Phewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!”

“Jai Gangaajal” is a STRICTLY AVERAGE flick that should not be your weekend-watch unless you are a die-hard fan of Priyanka; thought that even won’t please you enough.

Bankepur, a town in Central India, is in the vicious eyes of its leader Babloo Pandey (Manav Kaul). His brother Dabloo Pandey (Ninad Kamat) and he want to grab a land, of which, a small part belongs to a girl who refuses to give it.

Here starts a chaos.

The town has got its godmother as DSP Abha Mathur (Priyanka Chopra) who is perturbed with the sold police department, especially with Inspector BN Singh (Prakash Jha), who is the right hand of Babloo-Dabloo.

What happens next? Watch this flick or some episodes of “Savdhaan India” or “Crime Patrol” to find out.

Story, Screenplay and Direction

The film should have been titled “Jai Deja Vu” because all we get to see are cliches.

It is a very banal good-vs-evil game and you get bored after some time.

There are some sadistic pleasures which lured me (though not much), like the scene in which Abha Mathur beats a henchman of Babloo Pandey who is beating the father of a girl whom he wants to be in bed with him. Another is the one in which Jha beats Dabloo Pandey.

The major drawback of the film is that it focusses more on Jha than Chopra. Yes! Though the director-actor has acted quite well (actually better than the “Quantico” star).

The screenplay is weak.

Jha as the director has done well. Though it doesn’t change my opinion about the film. Why to blame the cook, when I am bored of samosa-the dish.

Also there is a Kanhaiya Kumar like character played by Rahul Bhat.

Dialogues don’t evoke clap-traps.

Stars’ Performances

Priyanka has definitely become a professional actor and they seldom go wrong. She’s acted well but, there is nothing likeable like Bajirao Singham, Chulbul Pandey and/or Vikram Rathod.

Prakash Jha makes a confident debut. He has acted very well.

Manav Kaul is lovely as the lead antagonist.

Ninad Kamat is good.

Rahul Bhat impresses.

Music and Other Technical Aspects

There is an interjection to describe the music and the background music of the film- ‘yuck’. Thanks to the English.

Cinematography is good.

Editing is satisfactory.

Sau Baat Ki Ek Baat

This water, like the natural water body, is highly contaminated. Though if you consider Priyanka a goddess too, you can have it. A lull fare.
