Nobel Laureate Mother Teresa to be made saint on September 4 , announced Pope Francis

Nobel Laureate Mother Teresa,  who spent 45 years serving the poor and sick on the streets of Kolkata , to be made saint on September 4 .  The Church defines saints as those believed to have been holy enough during their lives to now be in Heaven and can interact with God to perform miracles. Mother Teresa  has been credited in the church with two miracles, both involving the healing of sick people. Mother Teresa who died in 1997 at the age of 87 and was known as “saint of the gutters”. Mother Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity and spent 45 years serving the poor, the sick, the orphaned, and the dying on the streets of Kolkata. She died at the age of 87 in Kolkata in 1997.

 

Pope Francis today approved Mother Teresa’s elevation to sainthood and set September 4 as the date for her canonisation . The elevation of Mother Teresa to sainthood came after the Church recognised a second miracle earlier . We have now received an official confirmation from Vatican that Pope Francis has approved Mother’s sainthood and set September 4 as the date for her canonisation. We are very excited and happy about it, ”  someone  from Missionaries of Charity founded by Mother Teresa said .

 

Pope Francis announced , 19 years after the death of the Nobel Laureate Mother Teresa that she will be made a saint on September 4 . The late Pope Saint John Paul II allowed the procedure to establish her case for sainthood to be launched two years after her death instead of the usual five years . She was beatified in 2003, a mere six years after her death , More than 300,000 pilgrims went to Rome in 2003 for Teresa’s beatification . The Vatican officially in 2002 recognised a miracle belived to have carried out by Mother Teresa after her death, namely the 1998 healing of a Bengali tribal woman, Monika Besra, who was suffering from an abdominal tumour. But as The traditional canonisation procedure requires at least two miracles there was a need of second miracle to happen , this was the final hurdle to make her a saint . The second miracle happened in Brazil, where a person had been healed miraculously as a result of Mother Teresa’s earlier prayers .

 

Mother Teresa was an extraordinary woman who believed that hard work was the best way to serve God. She spent 45 years serving the poor, the sick, the orphaned, and the dying on the streets of Kolkata. Well it’s a good news for the entire world that Mother Teresa will be made a saint.
